Handcrafted at Perkins Center

This past Saturday night, the Perkins Center hosted its annual Handcrafted event, which showcased many locally made items.  Some of these items were beer steins, mugs and of course – BEER!

Burrough Brewery made a donation to the event, a free brewing session.  Now since I want all you who were there to feel like you won, I will be offering $20 off a session if you bring proof that you visited the event, and stopped by (and hopefully bid on) the brewing session.  For this offer, one of my business cards will be the only acceptable form of proof.

This is what my business card looks like - hopefully you picked one up!

(Almost) A Winner

Foobooz recently had a contest for tickets to ThinkFest,  “This two-day event will spotlight the boldest thinkers in our region.  Take a look at Philadelphia’s bright future, and meet the thought leaders making it all happen.  Shift your perspective.” – from phillymag.com.  We here at Burrough Brewery almost won.  Well, maybe that is stretching the truth.  But our idea made their article.  Foobooz asked their readers to come up with “Big Booze Ideas” to win tickets for Philadelphia magazine’s ThinkFest this past weekend.

“Turning the entire Piazza at Schmidt’s into one enormous ice luge shot bar? It’s definitely a big idea, but…” – What can I say?  We think big here at Burrough Brewery!

Here is the original article from Foobooz, complete with ideas…

Flashpoint Theatre’s 2nd Annual Brewfest – Homebrew Competition

This past Saturday (November 10th), Burrough Brewery joined about 15 other home brews aspiring to be either “Audience Favorite” or “Judges’ Choice” winner at the 2nd Annual Flashpoint Theatre Brewfest.  While our “Buzzed Porter” did not win top prize, I did learn that we scored well, 88 out of 100.  Good enough for the silver medal.  Not too shabby for our first competition.

mmmm beeeeeer!

I’d like to thank Julie and Tracy for their support (Tracy did an excellent job pouring out the Buzzed Porter).  I’d also like to thank Bill and Candace for coming by and supporting us.  It was great seeing Bill – it’s been way too long, and it was lovely to meet Candace.  And of course, I’d also like to thank Tricia and Kara.  They are my biggest fans and are always there for me.

Beginning Beer Brewing with Burrough Brewery

Do you, or someone close to you, enjoy hand-crafted beer?  Ever wonder what it takes to make beer for yourself?

Well wonder no longer!  Burrough Brewery is now offering Brewing Classes for Beginners!  Spend some time at Burrough Brewery and learn the steps in a one-on-one or small group environment.

Use our equipment and sample some of our brews as we work together hands-on and brew your own batch of beer.  We can make just about any style of beer you’d like – from stouts and porters, nut-brown ales, IPAs, and wheat beers.

Here’s some of the basic home brewing equipment that will be provided

For a $100 fee, plus the cost of the ingredients (and bottles if necessary), I will guide you through the process of brewing and provide the use of our brewing equipment.

Also, you will need two cases of clean, pry-off bottles.  You can bring your own, or I can order them for you.    We can also store the fermenting beer down in the brewery and will offer to do the bottling for you (or can return and do this – along with getting to sample the brew!).  And the best part, you end up with about 5 gallons of your own, home-made beer!

This could be a great opportunity for you, the beer lover, or will also make a great gift.  Get your holiday shopping done early and book a brewing session with Burrough Brewery!

Just leave a reply to the post, or contact us at our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/burroughbrewery)

New to the Burrough Brewery – Chocolate Milk Stout

Burrough Brewery spent last night being hard at work.  The fruits of that labor may still be a few weeks away, but that sweet, malty, chocolately goodness is going to be worth the wait.

With English Extra Dark Crystal malt and Fawcett Pale Chocolate malt, the rich black liquid is tempered by adding lactose.  This helps to boost OG and eventually the alcohol content and also imparts a nice bit of sweetness.  Pure cacao nibs will be added during secondary fermentation in a few weeks.

All in all, this should result in a full-bodied and filling beer with bittersweet notes.  Sounds just about perfect for the long cold nights ahead.
